RJ Sampson, VR Kids – Virtual Reality Therapy

 

RJ Sampson is the founder and Executive Director of VR Kids. He has been a computer programmer since age 10 and always had a passion for computers and technology. In 2014, he founded VR Kids, Inc., a non-profit 501(c) (3) based in Las Vegas. VR Kids is now working with three children's hospitals in the valley and provides their custom-developed virtual reality experiences to hospital-bound and mobility impaired kids.

RJ was born in Westfield, MA and has also lived in Tampa Bay, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia. He moved to Las Vegas in 2008, where he works on the e-commerce team for Allegiant Travel Company and lives with his wife and six children.

Las Vegas Rotary Club Meeting: March 1, 2018

  • President Michael Gordon called the meeting to order. Francesca Gilbert gave the invocation. Sidra Kain led the club in singing America the Beautiful and the Pledge of Allegiance. The Sergeant at Arms was PP Steve Linder.
  • There was (1) International Rotarian, (2) visiting Rotarians and (4) Guests of Rotarians introduced. President Michael introduced his guests, Kirk Alexander and Janelle Lozano.
  • Chris Bennett announced the opportunity to raise money for the LV Rotary Foundation through March Madness tournament boards at $50 a slot.
  • PP Jim Hunt informed Rotarians of member Carolyn Sparks’ back surgery. She is accepting phone calls.
  • Stu Lipoff provided feedback on Wine to Water event held last week raising $500 for One Drop.
  • PEE Jackie Thornhill reminded club of the 3rd quarter Wetzel awards out at Nellis AFB, March 8th and announced that the club made the “Power of Good” semi-finals encouraging all NV resident members to vote online between March 12-16th.
  • Larry Rouse reminded the club of the Tiberti fellowship that can be achieved by a cumulative donation of $1,000 or more to the local foundation.
  • Kirk Alexander provided a director’s update on this year’s youth and leadership events.
  • March birthday Rotarians were celebrated with Sidra Kain leading the Happy Birthday song.
  • Arleen Sirois introduced the clubs new recycling initiative.
  • PE Jim Kohl reminded the club of the April 15th Car Show and requested raffle prizes and donations. Additionally, introduced the idea of an LV Rotary FitBit club. Email Jim if interested.
  • President Michael reminded the club to sign up for the 95th-anniversary party on April 5th
  • Kirk Holmes reminded the club of the upcoming Highway Cleanup scheduled March 24th at 8am across from Bonnie Springs with brunch to follow at Jerry Sennes’ home.
  • PP Jim Hunt reminded the club of the Cigar Fellowship to be held on March 16th.
  • Marie Walsh announced the next Breakfast with Books which will be held on March 13 th .
  • President Michael reminded the club of Bill Granda’s memorial service tomorrow. Details are in the email sent out by Shawn last week.
  • President Michael fined Kirk Holmes $95 for the launch of his company’s new rebranded image and name – Bolt Goodly.
  • Visiting International Rotarian from the Calgary Rotary Club, Murray Flegel, donated 2 tickets to Friday night’s Golden Knights hockey game. Bidding war ended with winner PP Ginger Anderson’s bid of $250 that will go to the LV Rotary Foundation.
  • The drawing began at $880 plus this week’s donations. Ticket winner visiting International Rotarian, Murray Flegel, did not draw the joker received a $10 consolation prize which he donated back to the club. Lawry’s Bucks Winner was guest, Chan Lam.
  • PP Brock Fraser introduced our program speaker, Brian Gordon, Principal with Applied Analysis. He is the principal author of the Las Vegas Quarterly Market Report and heads up SalesTraq, the firm’s residential research arm. Brian presented the “Top 10” things that are being monitored from an economic standpoint in Southern Nevada to include the tax climate, professional sports, infrastructure, commercial real estate, tourism industry, construction industry, housing market, employment growth, and major investments.
  • President Michael Gordon presented our speaker with a “Share What You Can” award to benefit a veteran in need and then adjourned the meeting.
