Andy Bischel – CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs
Andy Bischel is President/CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada (BGCSNV), an organization that enables all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring responsible citizens. The BGCSNV serves more than 20,000 members from ages 5 to 18 throughout Clark County. Bischel brings more than more than 20 years of fundraising, community outreach and strategic partnership experiences to the organization. Upon joining BGCSNV in 2016, he was instrumental in continuing the advancement of merging the local clubs into one entity consisting of 14 clubhouses.
In more than a year, Bischel has significantly increased the organization’s budget to better fulfill the mission of BGCSNV. Under his leadership, two clubhouses have gone through major renovations, while a new clubhouse is slated to open in early 2018. Prior to BGCSN, he worked for seven years as the director of development for The Animal Foundation, which operates Nevada’s largest animal shelter and adoption center.
As a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Bischel would go onto be the school’s assistant men’s golf coach overseeing the Rebel Golf Foundation for more than 11 years.
Bischel is a 2014 graduate of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Leadership Las Vegas program. He and his wife Shannon reside in northwest Las Vegas. Their two sons, Sean and Ian are currently attending college.

Las Vegas Rotary Club Meeting: May 24, 2018
- President Michael Gordon called the meeting to order. Jaime Goldsmith gave an inspirational invocation, recognizing members as ‘winners’. PP Russ Swain led the club in singing God Bless America, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Sergeant at
Arms was Doug Grant. - There were (1) International Rotarians, (1) visiting Rotarians and (7) Guests of Rotarians introduced.
- President Michael confirmed a successful District Conference and amazing recognition of our Club, receiving gold for virtually all categories, including, but not limited to Foundation, Community Service, Membership, Club Service, Youth Service, Vocational Service, Club Website, and Public Image, with silver for International Service, but receiving the pride of all, the Governor’s Bell, otherwise referred to (at least this week due to the Golden Knights) as “the Stanley Cup of Rotary” – KUDOS to LVRC!
- PEE Jackie Thornhill presented Paul Harris pins to Kim Nyoni, his first, and John Ingeme, becoming a Paul Harris +5
- Rosalee Hedrick inducted two new members: Ana Orellana and Bruce Frazey.
- PE Jim Kohl made a check presentation of $5,000, to representatives from Sunrise Children’s Foundation, on behalf of our club and his firm, Howard & Howard
- Announcements included: a recent inductee to our club, Andy Kuniyuki, has undergone emergency epidural hematoma surgery; the passing of Lt. Col. Jim Sullivan, with services scheduled for 5/24; a Golden Knights Game 2 Watch Party on 5/30 at the home of PP Russ Swain, potluck style, a $5 donation, and BYOCigars; PEE Jackie Thornhill reminded members the Paul Harris Matching program is still in place and the 2nd Quarter Wetzel Ceremony will take place on 6/7 at a new time of 3:30 p.m., meeting at the Visitors Center at 3:00 p.m.; Kirk Holmes reminded members of the highway clean up on 6/9 at 8 a.m. across the entrance to Bonnie Springs with post clean up brunch at Jerry Sennes’ home; PP Dave Thorson reminded members on 6/2 the USO is hosting airmen for a Lights FC game $18/ticket with a pre-game tailgate party and the debunking party for President Michael set for 6/28, with cocktails at 5 p.m.; Ted McAdam announced there are 32 people going on the Creech AFB Tour on 5/29, with a change in bus pick up location; and Kirk Holmes reminded members of the Alpine Picnic is scheduled for 7/21 at Bob Werner’s mountain cabin retreat and members are invited to volunteer for a picnic ‘preparation clean up’ about 1 week before the picnic.
- Kirk Alexander announced Project Mercy is scheduled for 6/2, to build a house in Mexico and that for the fiscal year, our club’s contribution to the housebuilding project, has totaled $6,500, which covers the cost to build almost two single homes.
- The weekly drawing began at $2,259 plus this week’s donations. The Ticket Winner was Joan Murdock who won $10 and the Lawry’s Bucks Winner was Bob Barnard.
- Mike Ballard introduced our speaker program, Debra March, Mayor of the City of Henderson. Mayor March provided some historical city background and details of the expansion of the city/population, and as a champion of land use planning, the improvements envisioned/planned for infrastructure improvement, including Downtown redevelopment, Lake Mead Pkwy and Boulder Hwy corridors and the biggest project, Raider Headquarters, and practice facility.
- President Michael Gordon presented our speaker with a “Share What You Can” award to benefit a veteran in need and then adjourned the meeting.
