For more than
10 years now, the Las Vegas Rotary Foundation provides a qualified
501(c)(3) vehicle for ROTARY'S MANY GRANTS and CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES
IN THE LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY.
Many Rotarians who support ROTARY INTERNATIONAL'S worldwide
philanthropic activities, also want to contribute money THAT STAYS
IN THE LOCAL LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY.
That's where the LAS VEGAS ROTARY FOUNDATION COMES IN.
|
HISTORY
The Las Vegas Rotary Foundation was chartered in 1998, on the
advice of Las Vegas Rotary member and highly respected tax and
estate lawyer, Bryan Lowe. Mr. Lowe drafted the Foundation's charter
and continues to serve as its Registered Agent.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Las Vegas Rotary Foundation, Inc., is a nonprofit
organization that raises and manages private funds for the benefit
of the community in which it resides. These funds enhance the
quality of life through the mission of education and community
service.
The Foundation shall always maintain two
funds to accomplish its objectives of community service:
| 1. |
The Annual Fund. which shall support the
charitable activities undertaken by the Las Vegas Rotary
Club Board of Directors and referred by it to the Foundation
Trustees for funding within the revenues raised by Club
fund-raising activities.
The Annual Fund shall also provide for the Club's
responsibilities to Rotary International Foundation and
national and international charitable drives.
The Annual Fund shall administer both restricted and
unrestricted funds and may contribute to the administrative
expenses shared with the club.
|
| 2. |
The Permanent Fund, which shall pursue the
Foundation's original Mission Statement and Implementation
to provide for the long term support of Las Vegas Rotary's
community service by raising an endowment of One Million
Dollars.
No Annual Fund activities shall be supported from the
Permanent Fund, until One Million Dollars are accumulated
and invested.
No part of the principal of the Permanent Fund shall be
expended.
After achieving a One Million Dollar fund balance,
earnings from the Permanent Fund may be used, in the sole
discretion of the Trustees, to further the charitable
projects of the Annual Fund; provided, however, that such
transfers of earnings shall preserve the Fund with a balance
no lower than One Million Dollars.
No Administrative costs, except those paid third parties
in connection with investment activities of the Permanent or
Endowment portion of the Foundation, shall be paid from the
Permanent Fund. The objective shall be that administrative
costs of the Permanent fund will be subsidized by the Club
or Annual Fund. |

STATEMENT FROM PAST PRESIDENT TOM THOMAS
The Las Vegas Rotary Foundation was legally created to provide
not only a legal identity for funds and properties previously
donated to the Las Vegas Rotary Club, but to seek the benefits of a
tax-free organization for future club activities and opportunities.
I had the opportunity to sit in an ex-officio capacity at the
organizational meetings and, as I recall, there were several
long-time Rotarians who provided guidance and direction. Bryan Lowe
was the legal force to assist in the proper formation of the
Foundation and offered a great deal of time and pro-bono expertise.
"Uncle" Bert Purdue was a major force as was past UNLV President,
Pat Goodall. Both of these members with expertise in financial
management helped shape the investment policy of the Foundation.
There were several other members who contributed greatly to the
organization of the Foundation and provided legal and organizational
expertise. From the outset, the goal was to create a million dollar
Foundation to sustain the philanthropic efforts of the Las Vegas
Rotary Club. It was a pleasure for me to participate and watch this
great effort unfold.
